Jake on February 8th, 2008If big speckled trout are what you target, then November through January are months to remember. Trips have ranged from drifting and wading in waters from East Matagorda Bay to the back bays of West Matagorda Bay. There are countless fishing trips that I would consider highlights.
Jake Brown of Brown Lures joined me the day after a big December cold front. We hunkered down and fished in 30mph winds and consistently caught fish. The Pearl/Chart and Plumtreuse Brown Lures produced fantastic numbers of speckled trout

Jake on January 21st, 2008I think it is safe to say that winter is finally here. The fronts are more frequent and the winds produced by the fronts can really make things rough out there whether you’re in a kayak or not. Please watch the weather reports and let someone know where you are going and when you plan to be back. Being safe on the water makes things a lot more enjoyable for you and your families.
We have been fishing the Shamrock area behind Mustang Island and using the spoil islands to stay out of the wind which makes it comfortable and very productive
