Jake Brown of Brown Lures joined me the day after a big December cold front. We hunkered down and fished in 30mph winds and consistently caught fish. The Pearl/Chart and Plumtreuse Sea Devils produced fantastic numbers of speckled trout to 23 inches.

I stick with only a handful of baits in wintertime. Topwaters and Corky’s are always a part of the winter arsenal, and the pearl/chartreuse and plum/chartreuse Sea Devils have yet to let me down. The red and white Sea Devils are faithful backups. Deeper jig heads like the 1/8 and 1/4 ounce jig-heads reach the deeper depths of bay waters. But don’t be afraid to chunk a 3/8 ounce head to get down to the bottom on the coldest days in the river.
