First it was 78 degrees and windy as heck. Jerry (from JerryB’s Kayaks) and I found ourselves sitting on the edge of a channel out in Shamrock. The water was cold and green in color, we had a little overcast. For over two hours we caught trout after trout, and Jerry at one point was catching them on every cast. We were like kids, laughing and carrying on while catching trout. After some time Jerry said “I’ve caught over 30 trout on this same lure, these lures work and they are tough too.” He was using a Brown Lures Sea Devil with a chartreuse tail, of course. I was using the Bone Sea Devil. We continued to catch trout after trout until it was time to go. There were a lot of dinks in the mix but we managed to catch 10 over 17″ and they had some thick shoulders on them as well. We took the fish over to the Reef Restaurant at Bluff’s Landing and they cooked them up for us, fried of course, with all the trimmings. Sweet tater fries, coleslaw, and hushpuppies topped off a hearty meal. Heck we even called a few friends to share in the feast. Days like these, what a blessing!
