Baffin Bay fishing report and videos with Capt. Aubrey Black

We just got back from a fun day of fishing in Baffin Bay with Captain Aubrey Black. Aubrey called us up earlier in the week and said the fishing was on so my brother, father and I drove down Thursday night for a shot at a few big fish on Friday. The wind was a bit rougher than we expected, but otherwise the weather was great and it finally felt like spring for once. The topwater bite was on early as right out of the boat Aubrey hooked up with a 28″ redfish. We all started throwing lures on the top and Jake hooked up with this nice trout that we managed to get some film of.

It was fast and furious for the next few hours while we kept bringing in solid trout and one more redfish. Total we caught and released about 30 speckled trout plus the 2 reds. All but the first two fish were caught on Devil Eyes. Hot colors were Plumtreuse for everyone but me, and I pulled in trout on the Rootbeer and new Pearl/Black Back Devil Eyes.

There were no monsters, but plenty of solid trout in the 20″ range and Larry pulled in the largest of the day at 23″ on a Plumtreuse Devil Eye. Click on the images below to view them full-size.

Even though we didn’t end up getting the big trout we were looking for, Jake gave us a little bit of excitement near the end of the day. While throwing a Plumtreuse Devil Eye his line just started taking off. After about 10 minutes of him fighting and pulling without seeing anything I started filming, thinking that we may have some kind of record fish on the other end. Well, it turned out to be not a record trout but a turtle. Not just any turtle, but one that apparently loves our family’s lures because it already had a Corky attached to its back flipper, along with the Devil Eye on the front flipper. We removed the two lures, (kept both of them of course), and sent the turtle on its way, hopefully better off than he was before.

It was a great trip, and a good chance for the family to get out and have some fun before Easter without running into any of the Spring Break crowds. This was also our first time to fish with Aubrey, and that is definitely something I would recommend to any of you. He really has a knack for finding fish and he proved it on Friday. Most other boats were constantly running around, and the other guides we talked to only pulled in a few fish, which made our 30 seem that much more rewarding. If you are interested in heading down to Baffin Bay for a shot at big trout then check out Aubrey’s website, http://captblack.homestead.com/, or give him a call at 210-355-5091.

Thanks to Aubrey Black for a great day of fishing and thanks to all of you for reading and supporting our products. Please leave us some comments and let us know what you think about the report and videos.

SO THE CORKY WAS ALREADY ON THE TURTLE?!?! That’s funny as heck… not for the turtle.

That is an unbelievable video. That turtle must really hate the Brown family.
